Excellent by Indian openers facing 57 overs and still unbeaten. Easily surpassed overs faced by entire lineups in both innings.

Lead at stumps Day 2 is 218. India will also be happy that new ball is still far away apart from the fact that no wicket has fallen. Australia surely must be worried now.

that was a day for India, alright. A great day for India.

With the chances of an Australian win here looking extremely remote, I see Aus should have two things in mind (after dismissing India):

1. Avoiding an embarrassing defeat - keep the confidence levels up for Adelaide.
2. Bat for a LONG time - tire those Indian bowlers out for Adelaide.

Unbelievable turn around really. I absolutely did not see that coming when Ind were bowled out for 150. Ind will still need to be careful not to relax - lots of time left for Aus to chase down a big target. Ind should be looking to bat through the day tomorrow and into day 4 - be ruthless about putting Aus completely out of the game.

If Rohit, Shubman and Shami are all fit for the next match as well it will give the selectors a headache - Paddikal and who else would miss out?

good question. Not that it has happened yet though.

Either first two innings, but both are 254.

150 for Yashasvi. What an innings.

After Jasprit bought India back into a match advantage position, Yashasvi has further capitalized on the leas that Jasprit took with his 5-30 spell.

Yashasvi out for 161 from 297. :salute :clap

At a time where many test specialist batsmen and think tank justify players getting out playing T20 brand of cricket, and happy to average between 25 to 35 at strike rate of 100, I am glad to see Yashasvi has played 297 balls and has opted for long innings over a cameo in this format and allowed to watch a proper test match batting like this. The only T20 shot he played was over third man for six guiding the ball too far away which could have easily be left without any chance of bowled or LBW.

Chet played 1000 plus balls and 900 plus balls in last two test series in Australia. Yashasvi should look to play 1000 plus like Chet.Best wishes and good luck. :thumb

Sarfaraz should also be there instead of Jurel IMHO.

India 388 off 120 overs. That's a little over three runs an over. This is what you can achieve when you shelve the t20 bash ball hype and play a proper mix of defence and attack on a Perth pitch that usually offers assistance to fast bowlers.

You can bash the ball on dead road tracks, but on pitches that offer something to bowlers you need to be more circumspect.

Totally agree, MIB!

Off the 80 overs (480 balls) bowled with the first ball, Yashasvi played 255 balls whereas Rahul played 176. Yashasvi played another 42 balls of the second new ball. So not only did he make the first ball soft, he also did a handy job by seeing of 42 deliveries of the next brand new ball. Helped Virat Kohli, who himself played out 123 balls and Washington who played 94. Not often Australian bowlers would have had to undergo such a huge workload in first test against an Asian team. The cascading effect of having to face lesser energetic Australian pacers on one of the fastest wicket in world is not seen in the scorecard. This is also a five test series, so if Pat Cummins had any plans of not having to bowl more than 80 overs in an innings in first couple of tests , Yashasvi spoiled it thoroughly. Still, the Aussie bowlers did not err in line and length. Full credit to them for bowling neat and tidy after being tired. Not often bowlers will show such consistency in line , length and speed after undergoing such workload nowadays. It is good to see that after disastrous test series in recent times, one young player has stood out and the cascading effect of his long innings on the overall innings and improved perfromance of following batsmen: Virat in woeful form scores 93, and Washington also contributes to make a decent partnership with Virat. With a lead of 524 now, India are in a superb position. To be in sucha situation in first test for India tour of SENA, is very very rare. The opportunity to win must not be missed . There has to be icing on the cake.

The ability of Jasprit Bumrah to cut the bowl into the batsman as well as to cut it away (although slightly lesser deviation) has confused Nathan Mc Sweeney in both innings. Marnus too left one, unsure where it will go and gets out LBW. And at that pace it is simply a lot of headache to deal with for the batsman.
