the women are going down to a slow death defeat to Surrey in their T20 county cup QF

there's just no runs in the side, so conceding 194 is pretty fatal. That 149 the other day was probably as good a total as they could possibly get

and no Bates again, so maybe she won't play in the women's dribble after all. I wondered if the last T20 game was precautionary given she needed the physio to come on the other week

Filer is finally playing though and got her first Durham wicket earlier

the 2 Turners went for 63 wicketless runs off their combined 5 overs, which won't do at all

lets be generous and say that this decision took other factors into consideration. He won't open the bowling, so Raine gets a rest, but if that was the thinking, Yusuf will and might be tired after running up and down the crease for an hour without a sit down, so that doesn't really wash

Still.... well done the bowlers for cobbling together an unlikely looking batting point

I'm assuming Gregory can't bowl atm and so is opening instead. Davey is a bowler, but unlike Minto last week, probably not as a night watchman, because he opened both innings in the last game. Batted 10 in the match before

Vaughan down as number 8, but he's opened the batting in matches this season. All feels a bit muddled. At least there is no Dickson to bring a touch of the curse of the ex player to the proceedings. Pretorius of course, but he only played a bit part 2 years ago when we couldn't keep the overseas spinners fit for five minutes

Nightwatchman provides an opportunity to strike early in the morning. Maybe there is something in this pitch for the bowling.

I thought Somerset were going to try and grind their way to the close without being positive.... BR and Minto not going for many runs in our opening 9 overs. Davey and Lammonby must have really fancied the bowing of Yusuf and Killeen and attacked, but it cost them both..... caught behind by wk and 1st slip

I think we're quite well placed atm. Lots of work to do in the morning, though, so that we don't let them get away.

Having been released by England to play in this match whilst our boys are made to have a kip, it has to be nailed on for Rew to score the match defining innings.

Watched the highlights and you were right about the Lees first baller - dragged it on to the stumps.
Onions saying that it's a pitch that can seem flat for periods then all of a sudden the ball will do something.
Minto unlucky to get just the one wicket, he looks like a real prospect.
Lees kept trying to get the ball changed, I left before the close so don't know if he succeeded.

It didn't seem possible, because I thought he'd played odd games for us either last season or the one before, but according to crapinfo he has played 2 FC matches, bowled in 2 FC innings, taken 5 FC wickets and conceded 48 FC runs, which tally exactly with his 2 matches in pre-season against Zimbabwe A

so I now think this game must be his CC debut and that it was indeed his first CC wicket

Having also watched the highlights now, I have to say that Clarky was bit unlucky. Ball fired down the leg side, tried to help it on its way but straight to the keeper who was standing slightly to leg rather than outside off, so I think they'd looked at his last couple of matches and figured that was the way to get him out. Out to a plan. All that being said, there didn't appear to be any deviation of the ball, keeper barely had to move because the ball went straight into his gloves, Clark didn't seem remotely concerned and the umpire took an absolute age to put his finger up, so long that Clarky was already taking his guard again. If he has to think that long to decide if there was an edge then he's probably guessing if you ask me. Hard done by would be my opinion

BR also looked distraught to be given lbw and the ball was a tad high and going leg stump from over the wicket, maybe out, maybe not. Slipping down leg? maybe, but I couldn't be certain..... then again, I suppose, neither could the umps. Marginal... benefit of the doubt to the umpire. Bedingham's lbw looked out from a similar delivery to the BR one, but which hit him much lower in front of leg stump.... less of a guess

I've just noticed that the women suffered 3 run outs yesterday, 2 of them top batters, in the first 5 overs. That has to be a bit of panic at the size of the run chase, I imagine

not a good look though.... you have to give yourself a chance
