Time will tell but I was surprised we decided to bowl. And surprised is an understatement!

1 hour in and it already feels like we have a long 2 days ahead of us

maybe the thinking was kookaburra on a hard pitch is marginally better than a kookaburra on a soft pitch

only Durham, Glamorgan and Leics won the toss and decided to have a bowl.... none of them have a wicket yet

of the 6 who chose to bat, Hants have lost 2 wickets, Somerset 3 and Lancs 4. Warks and Kent are 1 down, but doing okay, Essex are 1 down but barely scoring runs

seems there might not be any right choices

and after we finally took a couple of wickets, Curran has come in and upped the tempo. 183-2 now, so they are now scoring at 4 an over. Sibley is like a weed that we can't get rid of, but at least he isn't scoring at a run a ball like Curran.... who has just reached his 50 in 48 balls

enjoy the sunshine lads and spare a thought for all those poor Surrey boys who are having to sit in the dressing room in the shade

so I see. Went off immediately after taking the wicket. That's a worry. Seemingly Potts had to go off for a bit as well, after clattering into the advertising hoarding whilst fielding, but came back later

no wickets this morning and we are getting an absolute caning

We had the chance to set the agenda and chose to cede the initiative to them. 554-3 and this has shades of Edgbaston last year where they scored nearly 700-3, I think, before declaring. That ended up being a draw and hopefully this one will too.

I understand that choosing to bowl at the Oval is pretty standard practice, so maybe Lees/Campbell were just captaining by numbers. It's going to hit 34 degrees in London today, so I can't see Surrey declaring until after tea..... why would you flog your bowlers into the ground on a baking hot day with a piece of soft old nonsense that does nothing? Unless you're Lees, of course
