I think tea as well

Maybe they swing away and get as many as they can before England bowl them. No declaration decision to get criticised for later

A tea declaration ought to suit England more, because India probably have enough runs already but equally they’ll have a load of nagging doubts as well. Then it’s up to Stokes on whether to bat normally and go into the third test 1-0 up, or ridiculously try to chase 450 or 500 in 4 sessions with their knobs out and testosterone puddling on the floor and go into the third test 1-1

Are not England committed to the latter. They say they don't play for draws.

Quite possible. Actually aligns with the cautious way Shubman plays and takes decissions as batsman and captain in domestic tournament. Add to that, he is aware Jasprit is not available and this series is the flattest of wickets India has probably got on England tours ever. This seems like Multan or Colombo. Bazball is successful in England. So there are many favtors which will make him more cautious about declaration.

India though is lagging by a defeat so India must be pressing for a win.

At this stage runs are immaterial I think. Gill is trying to take time of the game if anything.

England aren't chasing 500....

Why is Jadeja scoring at 36/100?

If England can't chase 500, then surely there's no point taking time out of the game...

Presumably India think that England will chase anything, so over a shorter time they will take more chances.

But it looks terrible if they run out of time.
