told you

it makes no sense at all. It's had me scratching my head all summer. England batted for most of their innings thinking they had 50 overs to make a score, so having lost early wickets, they slow run scoring down with 50 overs in mind.

If there's no more rain and Pakistan have access to the same number of overs as England, but in more advantageous circumstances, then why should 113 beat 133? But seemingly it does, because I've seen county teams lose despite scoring more runs in the same number of overs as the eventual winners

Baffles me :panic

I would have said the target should have been reduced as England had used up so many wickets. It was more beneficial for them for the game to have been reduced as they were less likely to get bowled out. Pakistan having 30 overs to chase a few more rather than 50 was a disadvantage.
I always say that everybody's right.

DLS is far from perfect - more an attempt to be as fair as it can be in settling a match in which circumstances change fundamentally due to reduced overs. I get the idea in this case behind the score reduction ; but it rests on the assumption that a side 7 down at half way won't bat out their overs so are somehow advantaged by the truncated game. But as we saw earlier in this WC , Australia were in a similar position also against Pakistan and yet ended up posting over 200 for an easy win. Cricket isn't played on a computer.

Not suggesting England would have pulled off the same trick : well as Dean and Arlott played they were undoubtedly aided by the wet ball and bowlers run up issues to add the runs they did. But at the same time , the drastically changed conditions gave England's bowlers virtually no chance of defending 133 - let alone 113 ! So in this case , DLS massively assisted the chasing team.

Never mind . Pakistan can count themselves unlucky , and England will be relieved to say the least. That's cricket , eh ?

Looking forward , England probably need one more win to reach the semis. No guarantee : India Australia NZ ... Their big problem is that with both openers struggling they are far too reliant on Knight and Nat - and have only Danni Wyatt as a reserve bat in any case (I do think they should have brought Davidson-Richards as well in place of one of the seamers). The bowling is fine : probably as good as any side in the tournament , even though they can't find a spot for Sarah Glenn - could she just replace Capsey who isn't really adding much with the bat ?

But in truth unless one of the Big Two bats big they aren't going to get the runs on the board needed to knock over Australia - who have umpteen alternative run makers should two or three early bats fail. India actually look much more vulnerable with a bit of a tail . NZ might be dead before the sides meet . So England may well still make the semis : going further requires a few support bats to really stand up...

Not such a bad start for Bangladesh but they've lost three now and only going at 4 per over so will need to kick on a bit later...not easy against Australia. Still 101/3 after 25 isn't rubbish...Bangladesh have put up some good fights over these games.

well the Bangladesh team that scared the sh1t out of England and SA have just been monstered by Australia. Did they play this game at a different venue or something? England play India and Australia at a less spin friendly venue than the one they played Bangladesh on, I believe

Bangladesh just looked like they ran out of steam and Healy and Litchfield took them apart....ragged bowling and fielding performance from Australia but total domination with the bat
