If only. It's been overcast all day, barely made it to 18C in Canberra.

On the bright side, beer.

How many times have we seen this, though? England scrap to an ok position with their noses in front, and you think if they could only bat another session or so and add another 150 Australia could really be under pressure - then they collapse, and Australia have no scoreboard pressure at all and knock off the runs with ease.

I'm having flashbacks to Melbourne 2013.

It sounds as though the coverage was at best amateurish

I didn't know that SKY no longer has the TV rights, nor that it hasn't broadcast an ashes series down under since the Tash ashes, so long has it been since I watched any England cricket, but it does reinforce the reason why I packed in my SKY subscription all those years ago, which was that I wasn't prepared to pay all that SKY money to still find I couldn't watch stuff without adding a whole ream of extra subscriptions to an ever increasing number of broadcasters. Even if I had added them, my guess is that there would still be stuff on channels I was paying a subscription to, that require an extra 'pay to view' payment for certain events

Their selection of commemtators is really bad

I paid for TNT rather than watch on the dodgy stick so i could watch the full highlights whenever i wanted and regret it

I assumed they would have the local commentators as usual not steven finn, cook and ebony rainford brent boring me to death.

Why didn't TNT take the Australian commentary, with a couple of visiting English commentators, like Broad?

Maybe a time limit on reviews is something to consider. A five minute review isn't really practical.

Going to be an extra 30m? Aussies won't even need it unless there are wickets.

and the hope dies

the really disheartening thing about it is that the Aussies were really worried this time yesterday, but fortunately the England batters and their batters helped them out big style

difficult to understand how the pitch went from unplayable to benign in a tea interval.... it's almost as if there was more to it than that :facepalm

I presume the Smith dismissal means we got our tedious obligatory controversy in nice and early.

The pitch flattens out on day 2, they said. Hang in there in the morning and it will get easier, they said.

All out in 33 overs.... utterly embarrassing
