Sutherland would do better (for us) if he batted higher up the order, but he comes in with 10 balls left and either wins the game but scores few points, or gets out and scores few points.

indeed. It's the captaincy, I imagine (I assume this is his first year in the role). Some players become less selfish, more of a team player and their points diminish. They do play though and don't get arbitrarily dropped
