Not only is he not good enough to warrant them, but it was just an invitation for all expensive new signings to request similar salaries. I don't think Di Maria will be on only £50k per week somehow.

That was unimpressive. They can't even use the excuse of playing four top teams in the first six games of the season like last year.

LVG needs to do something fast. Ok they didn't have Rojo & Herrera, and Di Maria isn't here yet, but they need to sign a couple more quality players. Not sure 3-5-2 is going to work either.

Di Maria had a good world cup and payed well for Real Madrid in the last few matches of the season I wached, but also had some shocking matches as well in the Champions league in particular. I've only seen him play about half a dozen times, but would say half of those were good and half were average.

His stats are not that great either,2005–2007

Attacking midfielders aren't just in the team for goals. Look at Ozil, Mata, James, Kroos. They're in the team more for assists. Di Maria got the most assists in Europe last season - 17 in 34 games. Was also man of the match in the Champions League final and quite a few journalists claimed he was Madrid's best (or most influential) player last season.
