Probably key to note, Alec Stewart did come out and say KP was not considered for those aforementioned games on the basis that Surrey viewed their promotion bid as over, and preferred to give a younger batsman a chance of a few matches. KP had said he would play if they needed him.

Which would be fine if true, but it wasn't, they played 21 year old Kapil in 1 of the 2 games and carried on playing the same team they had done previously, including 38 year old Vikram Solanki.

I think Colly has missed the point a bit. Most of the problems KP described happened after he finished apart from opposing Moores, which he agreed with. the side was quite unsuccessful after his time too.

It was Colly who stood down from the ODI captaincy in the Moores era that actually led KP to being captain. It doesn't mean anything, but if he stood down because he couuldn't work with Moores, then he gave KP a bit of a hospital pass. With hindsight, Moores should have gone and Colly should have been kept as skipper.

When Colly was a key fielder for England, it may be that the whole scenario of formal apologies for dropped catches didn't exist. Maybe he had the stature to make that unfeasible.

And that was a great fielding side- led by Paul Collingwood. Did the bowlers move into a vacuum when he retired? Certainly fielding standards have dropped, perhaps due to the pressure the fielders feel under recently.

And it's not KP against everyone else. So far Tremlett has backed him. Clearly no one out of the present team will back him, but KP does say that he has had messages of support.

We've been over and over why he didn't play for Surrey last season.

In terms of pissing into the wind, I reckon at least half the posters on this thread are antagonistic to KP.

Probably sympathetic.

I don't regard myself as antagonistic at all, simply trying to counter those like yourself that are accepting almost blindly Pietersen's version of events.
Certainly in Pietersen's case the ECB have totally mishandled the whole affair and deserves all the criticism they are receiving but I suspect the Flower regime would not have achieved the success it did if Pietersen's criticisms are true. I can well believe that KP's reintergration didn't work out but after the rancour of 2012 and the accompanying cricketing failures that's hardly surprising.

I've been critical of Pietersen in places. Most of the angry and unyielding opinion has come from the other side. I can't pretend to find KP has behaved badly to make myself appear more balanced; I think by far the greater wrong has been done against him.

Tremlett and Carberry have both expressed support. Both recently overlooked by the England camp!

Antagonistic is completely the wrong word, more not taken in by his exagerrated revelations.

If Pietersen genuinely wanted to show he didn't deserve to be discarded by England he would have been better advised, as SP said, to play CC cricket for Surrey and show everyone he was still good enough to play at international level A century or two would have been a better course than the one he chose and incidentally wasn't very successful at.

As I said before, no one in the England team will publicly support him now until they have retired. Maybe not then. Who knows. Most of the winter squad stuck up for him after the tour.

What good would it have done though? He could have scored 2000 CC runs and it still wouldn't have earned him a recall. England will not have him back.

People keep saying this. But he was told he wasn't going to play again. They decided he was the only thing that needed to be changed from the whitewash. He could have been beatified by the pope and it wouldn't have made any difference. They didn't drop him and say, go back to your county and prove us wrong. They said, you're toxic, don't come back.

KP mentions that he had his own style and it worked for him. He would just not follow what the coach because coach thinks it is wrong, unless and until the coach tells what is wrong and KP would ask questions about coach logic/reasoning behind asking to bat in a particular way.

Personally i agree with KP that everyone batsman will have his own batting style. Also, as KP enjoyed much better success as English batsman in ODI's and test matches, there was no reason that he should have changed his batting. I disliked Sehwag's and KP's approach in odd game especially during follow on or situation when the team should only look for a draw. However, i would say that if both of them are averaging 49 and 47 runs then they need not please each and every fan about their patience, shot selection, footwork, approach etc. From teams point of view the runs are important and both did a wonderful job for their country. Why would someone want to fix their batting at age of 28+ ? Asking a batsman to change the way he holds bat even after age of 16 will have severe negative effect on his game. Approach wise in some games yes, both could show some improvement. But there is also no harm in letting just one batsman out of 6 specialist batters play his natural game or more suited style in all situations. Did not the think tank give Broad the role of enforcer because he was the one who was more suited to bowl short aggressive stuff even though it did not work out more often than not. The only time they asked him to bowl less short stuff was when that tactic had flopped. In case of KP at least he got a lot of success if not lesser with his own style. Why they never wanted an enforcer in batting. Is it because they feel that only pace bowlers can attack. Is that why we see England not trying to pick spinners to win tests and not trying to pick batsman to win test by using them as attacking mode. No specialist spinner means that the team thinks a spinner cannot attack and win matches. This mentality that only pace bowlers can attack are probably not helping England much in the ODI format. At least they can afford one full flowing attacking batsman in ODI and test formats. Until they change the mindset of who can attack and who cannot England spinners and attacking batsman will probably find it tough to even get picked, lest perform given the freedom. KP just did that but in spite of performing what he gets. Dropped !

There might well have been a clamour from many sources for him to return or at least given him the personal satisfaction of showing what an error they'd made. Instead he chased the easy money in T20 cricket and made a pretty poor fist of that judging by his scoring record.
