Good result for England this morning, without being a great one. They did well, in short time as well.

This innings was a great start to the series in regards to blunting Johnson. Root, Ali and the crowd have done well.

Not arguing with the umpiring, Sussex - although, maybe Erasmus should have said to Broad "are you reviewing?" before calling. As I don't think he was going to review until Broad's question. As I say, obviously the right outcome was reached, my question is a matter of process.

I think the umpire has already made up his mind that he will review it himself, but puts the finger up to make sure that the question is "does it conclusively hit the floor", not "is it conclusive he takes the catch".... for grounded balls like this, the umpire should always refer them, its simply crazy not to. What Broad says imo is immaterial, I expect the umpire was never going to give the catch and punish with a review as he must had acknowledged catches that close are guessing?

I like that umpiring if so. More umpires should be inclined to say "that's out in my mind, prove me wrong" then plenty of wickets being lost to the grey area of inconclusive tv pictures.

conditions have been much better for bowling in the last 4 sessions, the ball then didn't swing an inch and the bounce was much lower and more consistent in 2009. The new ball have swung, bit of seam and definitely bounced a bit up and down.

The question is, has the pitch continued to lose pace and flattened? If not, England may have a good score, if it has, they maybe under par

entirely dependant on the respect and tone of the player phrasing the question. If its a polite enquiry, then I think there is no problem. If the player is being forceful or rude, then no.
