Considering that say a 150km/h bowler gives you 0.46 seconds to react from release to reaching a batsman, cutting this down by at least half when Starc releases the ball, and considering that the above reaction time is based on a 30-40% loss of pace on pitching, we are working with a 0.1 to 0.2 second estimated reaction time at most (as Starc doesnt not hit the pitch, and over a much shorter distance, the fastest pace will be maintained for longer).

The average human reaction time according to the lean sources available on the internet?? 0.215 seconds.

http://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime

So in short, before Stokes has even had time to develop a thought of "im getting hit" and to voluntarily react to it, the ball has hit him. Unless of course he is some form of god that helps him to develop thoughts and react to them 10 times quicker than others.

You can keep talking about this as a "Aussie vs Pommie" thing, but its simply applying scentific limitations to humans..... not expecting peoples mind to run as slowly as the single shot frames the umpire rather idiotically decided to base his decision on.

Good news from Durham then if John Hasting get picked for Australia it makes it easier for Durham to get Hastings to play as a overseas player again.
Someone last year from the Durham camp on Twitter told me that Hasting was unlikely to play for Durham again in the future if he didn't play for Australia.
ECB have some overseas rules that only players that have played for their country in the last two years can get the visa to play.
Although he did say if that player was to play for a county in the last year he can get extended for 12 months.
Hastings fulfilled that part last year so was allowed to play this year.

Is Hales under pressure? Well yes, he should be. I don't mind his scores if he had a s/rate of over 100, but he doesn't seem to be batting any quicker than Bell.

Both Hales' dismissals perhaps resulted in him having less of the strike than Roy and a perceived, but unnecessary, requirement to keep apace with his partner - as a pair they were going well. On both occasions they were building a good platform at a decent rate. He seems a little frustrated when he can't play forcing shots - a mistimed pull and an attempt to go high past one of the best cover fielders in the game were unnecessary.

I'm sure with time and a little more patience he will reap rewards.

What a shame Stokes couldn't fess up, still I'm not surprised in the least. He's only a 20 year old and perhaps one day he might have the courage to tell the truth.

All this is going to achieve is to get the Aussies extremely peeved off and I'm exspecting match fines at the next ODI.

I played cricket in my teens and twenties and I had great reflexes so they often had me fielding at short leg where I took many catches including two memorable full blooded sweep shots. One of the guys I caught off his sweep turned to me and said in a real deep Tassie accent "that's bull$#!^".

I guess you could right the catches off as flukes, but even as I look back 30 years I can still see a flash of the ball coming to me. I stuck my hands up and next thing the ball was in them and everyone was going crazy. That was club cricket, not the international scene.

Fluke or no fluke, point is I had every intention to try and catch that ball, and I was a lot closer than Starc was and the ball was likely travelling twice as fast.

Just read this on BBCsport

Some reporter asked Stokes

Asked whether an Australia apology would help defuse any tension, Stokes added: "It would not be doing me any good, or any bad.

You've got to be kidding me.

Stokes is 24years old and certainly doesn't lack courage. He's answered questions put to him by the media. Did you ever get hit on the head when you were fielding at shortleg in your youth?

I know Kolpak players are allowed to be denied a visa if they play for their country 12 months before the beginning of their county deal, sure this isnt cross wires on that rule? Fidel Edwards is one example that srpings to mind of a player that couldnt have played international cricket for a while.

I think if you have played more than X amount of international games over your career, you can automatically qualify

I might have made that up though

Michael Klinger is Gloucs overseas player and has never represented Aussiein either Tests or ODI's so I think ECB make the rules up on the hoof. Hasting's qualifies with a rule applicable only to Durham- he knows the Durham victory song, Blaydon Races, off by heart.
