have i said that because i dont think i have ?

3 of the 5 wickets to fall were self-inflcted imo

but it comes back to what i have said, in that india are a better team than us in these conditions

having a spin attack which imo is below test quality allowed india to score more than they should have, that then meant we were immediately under pressure going out to bat with 450+ on the board against us

we have a batting lineup that imo doesn't play spin very well and india have been able to pile on the pressure with better quality spinners being able to restrict scoring

india being able to bat first on a "better" pitch then able to bowl once the pitch has started to give more assistance has just really emphasised that gap

Think india been batting on the same pitch, the pitch hasn't even started deteriorating at the time.

Duckett is in next. He has not scored many runs and i expect he will find it more tougher to survive tomorrow under pressure. Basically apart form top 3 who have temperament and patience, others are more of stroke players and surviving with stroke players against 3 spinners on day 5 even with normal help for spinners but uneven bounce is very tough task.

A lot will depend on how this innings progresses, a relatively quick mop up of the remaining wickets is what India need. However with the pitch being so docile Rashid and co should be able to score runs and make life difficult for India. A gritty performance by the remaining batsmen and this game may yet be saveable.

Hope said the pitch was still docile on Day 3, so surely the toss wasn't important in this game at this point of the game.
team losing the toss still had the same bowling conditions and batting conditions, so please explain to me how the toss advantage being instrumental.

Well they were mostly cooked because they bowled crapped and didn't bat well.
Nothing to do with the toss and india getting a large total.
again india were 363/7.
not a massive first innings total at time with Ashwin and the debutant at the crease.
Could have easily been a strong position in this game or win the test from there, so really from that point you can literally say the toss advantage went.
india 380 all out and england got a very good chance of getting a good lead and winning from there.
So again folks where is the Toss Advantage and even if it does exist it can easily be made up from bowling or batting better.
So crazy how people can't see that.

15 tests, captain winning toss has opted to field first only in 3 matches. Clearly there is a pattern. This pattern has also occured in Ranji matches over decades. Nobody wants to play two or three spinners on day 5 here.

Not this year it hasn't got evidence of captain bowling first more.

5 tests this year in India. All 5 times team winning toss has opted to bat. 100 %.

lol I might as well just stop since this proves my point.
quite interesting how many sides are bowling first, thought batting first is a huge advantage in india lol.
Going to stop now since you are clearly wrong considering the toss isn't significant in Ranji trophy or Test cricket in india.

Here Adi.
No denying that team will like to bat first and it is better, mostly because no one would like to chase on day 4/5.
but the point remains if you bowled better or bat better especially on a pitch with help on day 1 you can win games and make up the toss advantage if you lose the toss that is a fact otherwise India and Mumbai won't be dominant in india.

of course everyone going to bat first no sane person will ever field first, but how many of those test was won by india because they won the Toss adi.
Suspect all 5 games india would have won if they lost all 5 toss as well so again how is the Toss advantage anything meaningful.

In this situation, all the innings will be judged by how secure they are defensively, and whether the shot they got out to was necessary at all, and if so then whether it prioritised safety. Stokes and Bairstow in the first innings played very cautiously at first before playing their shots, so they can repeat that initial mentality tomorrow.

Dismissals to sweep shot will get most criticism tomorrow :)

Personally hoping somebody does Ian Bell trying to loft the ball over mid off first ball. :laugh

Bhave do you have to quote posts and put one word for 10 posts? Could all be done in one and no one cares who is right or wrong. It seems like you are just talking to yourself. Clutters the thread as this post does too.

I really think England can draw this, Kohli still finding his way as a captain.

Duckett's place in the side must be helped by how emphatically Ballance was dropped after BD. And that the alternatives would necessitate rearrangement of the batting. If Buttler came in for him, would he slot in at four? Woakes certainly wouldn't. Bairstow and Stokes would have to be moved up.

Bringing Buttler back in feels like another one of those decisions made around the England set up that either must succeed, or risk making those responsible lack credibility (much like bringing back Moores, or recalling Ballance after he had been dropped and then struggled in CC1). Buttler has played one first class match since he was dropped. He was taken out of the the last county game. He's pretty much stopped playing red ball cricket. And yet he may be recalled into this series in unadvantageous circumstances.

I remember in the West Indies commenting that the England squad felt like it was like a stalemate. That there was a certain genius in how many alternatives provided absolutely no options. If Woakes covers for an injured Broad, there's actually no one among the five remaining names that anyone really wants in the team. Possibly Batty could come in for Ansari, but even that would make the spin options appear pretty whitebread .
