that pretty much close to a season in india.
Anyway it up to you lot how you read the evidence.

it isn't evidence , its anecdotes

but of course we should just be grateful that one of our brightest prospects owes everything to a few months he spent in india as a kid ...

Sorry but not sure anyone here is saying that rich.
Also does it really make any difference considering Hameed a very good player and he doing well in india does it really matter how much cricket he played in india or what quality it was.
Surely the point should be his playing good cricket in india for England and his experiences helping him to prosper in alien conditions.
it really doesn't matter how many games he played in india or what quality they were or even how long he spent in india since end of the day he looks comfortable playing for England in Test cricket in India and doesn't bat like a person facing spin in india for the first time.

of course thats what you are implying, otherwise you wouldn't be labouring the point or placing so much emphasis on how much a few weeks spent in india as a kid would have on his current skillset

and i repeat there is no actual evidence of the level he played at, the quality of coaching he received or even how well he did, therefore its just anecdotal information

has it helped him, maybe, but its stretching it to an extreme to suggest it was significant in how he developed as a cricketer

Anyway didn't post this link earlier but Hameed did have the option to play for india so he clearly got offers from india when he was young, so I suspect he was playing a good standard of cricket there.

Most definitely. I think that’s one of my dreams. Within the south Asian community, it’s obviously a smaller community that we’re from back in India, and I think there’s only ever been one player that’s gone on to play internationally, and that’s [India seamer] Munaf Patel. So for me, one of my aims is to be the first one that goes on to play for England from my community. And being from an Indian background, India has a special place in my heart, but when I was given a choice of playing for England or India, it was always England for me. Hopefully I can fulfil that dream.

anyway not sure how he could play for india unless he got an OCI and he revokes his british passport.
the only player from my community that played cricket is Rajesh bhudia for Kenya although think they could be more more playing for Kenya.
none for England or India yet or Australia.

Stokes at 4 will be too high. I'd move Moeen and Bairstow up the order.

As for the summer, while Bell-Drummond and Leach look like decent prospects, I think it might be a year or two too early. Last thing we want is to burden them with the weight of expectation.

Dropping Ian Bell is looking more and more like an error.

You do realise I only giving this information out since Splinters wanted to know more right.
I never once claim hameed was a brillent player for just playing cricket in india.
Anyway it is up to you how you read the information.
Not sure why I even bothered gathering all this information for Splinters now.

Also why are people so angry at this surely this should be seen as a good thing that a player is playing overseas to learn new skills and be a better cricketer which is helping him score runs for England in india or Asia.
not once did I ever say Lancashire didn't produce him.

bell-drummond has probably been mooted as an england player alot longer than either duckett or hameed tbh

i really dont want to get into the ian bell argument but i dont see how dropping a guy that was averaging under 30 for his last 2 years in test cricket can be seen as a mistake

Duckett played lions but not overseas yet and Hameed never been part of any group except for the under 19 and he got dropped for the Asia leg/world cup.
Although it turns out Hameed played a lot of cricket in Asia from a young age.

Dobell also stated that with Vince, Hales, Ballance, plus countless other openers not doing well, the Selectors had no choice but to pick players without lions experience

I wasn't aware that Hameed had played cricket at any level in Asia, given he's been playing for Lancashire since he was 12. Could you elaborate on this as I'm genuinely curious about it.

For rich not sure why I even bothered to gather this information now.
So at what point did I say hameed was the player he was because of playing in india at a young age.
All I was implying was that ECB were not sure on Hameed because he never played lions or toured before so they were uncertain how he would cope in asia for the first time but it turned out Hameed actually played cricket in india before and was quite use to the conditions before.

what level of cricket he played in india is so irrelevant now so not sure why anyone needs proper evidence for it since it make no difference what so ever to the point that he played or been to india before.
the point is Hameed is a very good player and looks comfortable at playing spin in india and doesn't look like a novice and I pretty certain that is because he been to india so many times and played spin from a young age on similar decks.

very lucky kid to experience cricket in SA, India, England at a young age not many get a complete cricket education at 17.
The only other person I can think of that got a similar experience is Arjun Tendulkar who plays for Ealing cricket club and was a net bowler for MCC and bowled to the england team last summer at lords.

Well you didn't have to read it did you rich.
Considering the information wasn't for you but another poster that politely asked for when hameed played in india because it was new information to him.

How this is a bad thing is also baffling to me.

His familiarity with India may well have helped at some level, even if only in developing expectations and making the whole experience less unusual off the pitch. Of course he has to have a lot of ability to make that mean anything.

But (give or take being sawn off by Joe Root in the first innings of the last game) it's still pretty thin stuff. He could go on and have an excellent tour, or it could look a bit like Nick Compton's debut tour, who sort of did ok, but didn't really put convincing numbers on the board. The big difference being, that Compo was being picked as an experienced player who had been around long enough to encourage expectation that he might settle in quickly. Whereas, hopefully, Hasseb will be one for the future.
I always say that everybody's right.

I think, to summarise, if Hameed does well this tour the Indian coaches that helped him as a kid will be claiming its all down to then. If he has a shocker it will quickly vanish as ever happening.

Whether or not his time as a kid over there had any impact is up for debate.
